Orren Lee Cairo, 77, of West Des Moines passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021. He was born on March 14, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Willis “Bill” and Francesca (Masters) Cairo. Orren was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School. After graduating, he studied business at Drake University and then transferred to AIB College of Business to complete his education.
On June 28, 1969, Orren married the love of his life, Norma Dekker. Orren went to work for Agri Industries as a computer programmer in accounting and later transferred to Lutheran Hospital as a programmer. At the age of 65, Orren retired. In his free time, he liked taking trips with his family. He enjoyed remodeling and landscaping projects. Orren loved hanging out with the grandkids and attending their events. He was a joy to be around. Those who knew Orren knew a playful, caring, compassionate man who loved his family.
Orren was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma; a son, Gentry (Krista) Cairo; three grandchildren, Reece, Calli, and Zane Cairo; and two brothers, Ron (Susan) Cairo and Brent (Julie) Cairo; and his nieces and nephews.
No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Orren’s memory to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or to the Friends of Iowa PBS Foundation.
