Patricia “Pat” Ann (Michael) Robbins, 74, was born November 19, 1943, the daughter of Wendell and Hilda (Steere) Michael. She was reunited with them on October 12, 2018, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Pat was born in Waverly, Iowa, where she grew up on her family farm in Bremer County. She was baptized and confirmed at the Missouri Synod-Lutheran Church in Bremer, Iowa. Pat attended a one-room country school through eighth grade, then went on to attend and graduate from Waverly-Shell Rock High School. Pat was active in 4-H, student council, and other various leadership organizations. Upon her graduation, she attended Iowa State University where she studied Home Economics.
While attending Iowa State, she met the love of her life, Ron Robbins. The two were married on August 16, 1964, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly.
Ron and Pat resided in Des Moines and eventually built their home in the Waukee area, where they lived together for 43 years. Pat was active in her church with bible study, women’s guild and altar society. She was a member of PEO Chapter J.M., Rotary Club of Waukee and coached little girls’ softball. Pat worked together, with Ron, for many years selling real estate for Iowa Realty Company.
Pat loved to spend time working outside with her husband, Ron, in the garden, planting flowers of all varieties, and baking. She was well known, by many, for her yummy treats around the holidays (a.k.a. German tea rings & cookies). She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and going on shopping excursions. Pat had many wonderful memories of travels to Florida with Ron and Walt Disney World with their children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her best friend and husband of 53 years, Ron; children, Brian (Nancy) Robbins of Clive, Jennifer (Randy) Berns of Winterset; grandchildren, Brianne (Ethan) Jackson of Kansas City, Bailey Robbins of West Des Moines, Marissa (Camilo) Cadavid-Berns of West Des Moines, Taylor Berns of Ames, and Madison Berns of Winterset; sister, Janet (Duane) Rieckenberg of Waverly.
Pat will be missed dearly by her family and many wonderful friends who gave her friendship and happiness over the course of her lifetime.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 20 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Friday evening at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
