

Paul James Horvath, 98, of West Des Moines passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetary in West Des Moines.
Paul was born April 2, 1914 in Barton, Ohio the son Sandor & Julia (Novak) Horvath, Hungarian immigrants. He graduated from Martin’s Ferry, Ohio High School. Prior to WW II he worked in various steel mills in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Signal Corps, primarily in the Middle East. Following the war he joined the U.S. Postal Service as a railway postal clerk until his retirement. He married Mary D. Sturniolo on April 27, 1946.
Paul was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines as well as the Knights of Columbus.
Paul is survived his son, Paul E. Horvath; his grandson, Paul Alexander Horvath; and his daughter-in-law, Suzi Rothchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary as well as eight siblings: John Torok, Rose Nagy, Julie Pollock, Sophie Oddis, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph and Alec Horvath.

Paul will be missed by his friends at Sacred Heart and Fairmeadows Village, and especially by his family who loved him very much. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Methodist West Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, especially Dr. Shreck and Dr. Rice.
