Randall Winters, who spent his entire working lifetime in the dairy processing business, with the exception of 3 ½ years served in the Army overseas during WWII, died unexpectedly at his home in Wesley Grand on Friday October 22, 2010 at the age of eighty-eight. Winters was born in Omaha, NE on November 15, 1921.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Johnston with entombment at Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLaren’s Chapel.
Winters retired as President of the Roberts Dairy Corporation in 1988 after having spent more than 50 years in business. During his business career he owned and operated dairies with his brother Ralph. For several years he served as Vice President of the Borden Company Chicago offices and General Manager of its Iowa division.
Although spending a majority of his time in business, Winters was very active in civic and community affairs. He served as an officer and director of the Des Moines Industries Council, Iowa Dairy Foods Association, Greater Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, Jr. Achievement, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Rotary Club. Winters served as International Vice President of Sales and Marketing Executives and for many years was involved with Toastmasters serving as an International Director. During these years Winters was also active in church work serving on various church boards. He has been a member of First Baptist in Des Moines, and now of Johnston, since 1960.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lyra, of sixty-four years; three daughters and son-in-laws, Dianna and Bill Cameron of San Clemente, CA, Janet and Jim Farrow of Lenexa, KS, and Beverly Winters and John McIlwee of Golden, CO; and six grandchildren. He has a sister, Irene Gnata, in Lincoln, NE. His parents, Arthur and Marie Winters, and brother Ralph preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.
