Ray Pockrandt, 89, passed away on April 5, 2015. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday April 8, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1105 Grand Ave., West Des Moines with burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Ray was born May 28, 1925 in Gibbon, MN to Fred and Margaret Pockrandt. After graduating from Gibbon High School, he enlisted in the Navy, serving his country from 1943 to 1946 aboard the U.S.S. Marcus Island in the Pacific during WWII. Following graduation from Miller Vocational in Minneapolis, MN Ray worked for electronic companies in Minneapolis, MN, Rock Island, IL, and Des Moines, IA. He later purchased Mid State Distributing which he sold in 1988. After retirement, Ray enjoyed playing golf, traveling, fishing and playing cards.

Ray is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lily; son, Mark (Sue) Pockrandt of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Susan Pockrandt of Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Beth (Alex) Le Grand of West Des Moines, Jennifer (Brad) Neal of Clive, Andrea (Jared) Lovelady of Urbandale, Amanda and Josh Pockrandt of Coon Rapids, MN; great-grandchildren, Cameron McCawley and Annali Le Grand; brother, Robert (Barbara) Pockrandt of Ft. Myers, FL; Minnesota sisters, Rosie Ehnes, Elvira (Virgil) Landgraff, Marilyn Black, Janette Compart and Genny (Robert) Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Irene Bender and Maryann Ehnes; and a host of nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his son, Tom; sister, Phyllis; and brothers, Marvin and Ellsworth.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church of West Des Moines, IA or to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in loving memory of Ray.
