Richard R. Daumueller, 77, died Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at his home in West Des Moines. He will be remembered with a memorial brick in the Peace Garden at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines.
Rich was born May 20, 1946 in Belleville, IL, and moved to West Des Moines with his family as a child and lived the rest of his life in Des Moines and West Des Moines. He had a long career in social work, as a therapist in private practice and then as a manager of clinical services for Magellan Health Services until his retirement. He cared deeply about helping people and advocating for the needs of those who could not advocate for themselves.
He was a dedicated father, showing up for every dance, choir, and marching band performance while his children were growing up. He also took great pride in his family’s home and their boat, Lil’ Ducky, which he loved taking out for a sail on Big Creek Lake. Those who knew him well knew him to be a big-hearted comedian, although introverted, and a staunch Democrat.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Cleola (née Kronenberger) and L.W. “Butch” Daumueller, and his older brother, William Daumueller of Freeburg, IL. He is survived by his son Andrew Daumueller of Aurora, CO, daughter Lauren Daumueller (Jonah Bull) of Minneapolis, MN, and two grandchildren Levi and Silas; former wife and mother of his two children, Janice Hill of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers, James (Patty) Daumueller, and Mark (Joanne) Daumueller of Des Moines, IA, metro, sister-in-law Cecile Daumueller of Freeburg, IL; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in Des Moines metro and Freeburg.
