Richard Thomas Lee

Richard Thomas Lee, age 79, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. A celebration of life visitation for Richard will be held Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 10 AM to 12 PM followed by a funeral service at 12 PM at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Richard was born August 25, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa to Patrick and Maxine (Frazier) Lee. He was considered a self-made man. He was a hard worker and this work ethic paid off in his career as a Cement Mason. Richard was an avid fisher and golfer but loved nothing more than being a loving dad and grandpa and showing support by attending the kids sporting events. Richard gave freely and never expected anything in return. He was smart and honest, and his candid conversations were appreciated. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Colleen; children, Rich (Keri) Lee, Tammie (Matt) Thummel, Amanda (Brian) Smith, Mark McDonald, Troy McDonald; grandchildren, Zach (Amanda) Lee, Austin (Taylor) Lee, Levi Linville, Clayton Linville, Braxon Linville, Gavyn Couldry, Makenzie Smith, Brylan Smith, Addilyn Thummel, Reece Thummel, Ashley McDonald, Daniel McDonald, and Emma McDonald; great-grandchildren, Carsyn Tholund, Ava Tholund, Temperance McDonald, and Baby Boy Lee on the way; siblings, Carol Thomsen, Steve Lee, Fred (Carol) Lee, and sister-in-law, Deb Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jim Lee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Richard's honor to UnityPoint Hospice.
