Rita Lorraine Vaughn, 93, was called home Monday, August 1, 2016. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation with Rita’s family will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at McLarens.

Rita was born July 7, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa to Leon and Helen (McKay) Huss. Rita loved life and enjoyed family and friends. She graduated from North High School and married Joseph Vaughn on August 17, 1941.

Rita worked and retired from Meredith Corporation after many years of joyful service. She held several interesting positions including Administrative Assistant to Ted Meredith. Over the years she enjoyed square dancing, bowling, sewing, reading, and their many pets. After retiring, Rita liked to go shopping and could be gone for hours socializing and finding any treasures that may be waiting for her. She spent time with her friends and loved getting together to enjoy their company.

Survivors include her two grandsons, Jeff Peterson and Randy Peterson of Des Moines; her nieces, Laura (Pat) Lynch of Cumming, Iowa and Lynda (Dennis) Wilson of Des Moines; nephew, Rick (Gwen) Gray of Odenton, Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Peterson of Des Moines and Sophie Peterson of Des Moines; and numerous great-grandniece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph; daughter, Carol Peterson; sisters, Virginia Gray and Kathy Waters; and her brother, Bill Huss.
