Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2025, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th St., West Des Moines, IA.
Bob was born to Hester Mae Newell Carle and Robert (Stoney) Carle. He attended Central College in Pella and served in the U.S. Military. He married Ruth Stuchel in 1957 and worked for United Air Lines for 36 years.
Perhaps the only thing Bob loved more than his countless trips to Hawaii was the love and company of his family. His gift of storytelling was unmatched. He was the king of stories, tales, one-liners and poems. From Sam McGee to Burglar Beau, evenings around the kitchen table or in his beloved hot tub, this surely included him sharing one of his legendary poems or stories with his wit and accuracy.
Bob not only shared his wonderful stories but took great joy in giving to others. From candy, stuffed animals, and unique gifts to trinkets he found roaming the beaches of Hawaii, many were blessed with his generosity.
Bob was passionate about gardening and had a wonderful array of plants and kept a beautiful yard, including a koi pond. He was a lover of music, particularly Hawaiian music. He loved travel, including trips north to Canada. But Hawaii was his destination of choice, walking on the beach, conversing with friends at The Shack, or having dinner at Chucks. And he made that trip annually with his last trip made at 90 years old!!
He was a well-loved man who would enamor you with his wit and charm. He will be deeply missed. His legacy will be passed down through his children and grandchildren who have so fondly listened and learned his wonderful stories and lines!
Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Debra, Kelly (George Kattermann), D’Ann (Eric Abbott), and Robert; brother, John; grandchildren Tripp (Melissa), Kacie (Choesang), Kyle, Maddie, and Max (Saraya); 8 great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, sisters- and brother-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bill.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be left at www.mclarensresthavenchapel.com for the Carle family.
