Robert W. Gibbons, 75, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his home in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Bob was born March 22, 1937 in Des Moines to Doren and Dorothy (Hevlin) Gibbons. He was an assessor in the insurance business and a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Bob was a member of the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club, NRA and an avid duck and pheasant hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed attending gun shows, collecting guns, knives, hand-cut crystal and was a wonderful trap and skeet shooter. Bob loved country western music, wearing cowboy boots and Stetson hats and driving his cowboy Cadillac (his pick-up truck). He also enjoyed spending hours talking to his “girls” at Village Inn and Perkins.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Timothy Gibbons of Urbandale and Michael Gibbons of Des Moines; granddaughter, Nicole Gibbons of Urbandale and numerous friends that will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Gibbons and a sister, Roberta O. Gibbons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLaren’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pheasants Forever.
