Robert R. Meyer, 94 passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Ramsey Village surrounded by loved ones. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines, IA 50265. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at the Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.
Robert was born June 16, 1929 on the farm near Quimby, Iowa. He graduated Galva High School in 1946, where he met the love of his life, Vera. Then he furthered his education at Morningside College, where he graduated in 1950. Bob enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and they later married in March 1951.
For three of his service years they lived in Anchorage, AK where many fond memories were created. They moved to West Des Moines in 1958 to start their family. Robert was a selfless, loving and caring husband for over 70 years, father and the best grandpa.
After serving Robert worked for Standard Oil, Equitable of Iowa and ISEA before starting his own communication business, which he retired from in his 80’s. He was a lifelong member at West Des Moines United Methodist Church on 8th & Grand, where lifelong friendships were created. He was a distinguished and devoted member of the Masons, Shriners and Scottish Rite. He enjoyed working on house projects, volunteering and any sweet treats Vera would make for the family. He was a firm believer in the good of giving back to his community however he could.
Left to cherish his fulfilled life are his sons, Keith (Dave) and Wade (Diana); granddaughter, Teryn (Brandon); and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his spouse of 70 years, Vera; son, Jeffrey; and his parents. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
