Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, Iowa, on August 7, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by A Celebration of Life at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, Iowa, on August 7, 2026, at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum. Following the funeral mass, the family invites you to a Celebration of Life luncheon at Des Moines Golf and Country Club.
Robert W. “Bob” Murray died July 11, 2026, at Edgewater Senior Living Community in West Des Moines, Iowa, with his wife, Rita Murray, and all three of his children at his side (Barbara, Kathy & Pat). Bob is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Born in Dubuque Iowa on November 23, 1934, to Ida and William Murray. Bob worked his way through Loras College, graduating summa com laude in 1956. He ultimately earned a C.P.A. license.
He worked for the I.R.S at the start of his career, and for Ernst and Ernst [Young] after relocating to Des Moines. He went on to executive roles at Hawkeye Bancorporation, navigating small town [county seat] banks through the farm crises of the 1980s.
He was an avid and excellent golfer (6 Holes-in-One!). Bob served a term as the president of the Des Moines Golf and Country Club where he played a key role in bringing the 1999 USGA Senior Open Championship to Des Moines. Subsequently this tournament evolved into the Principal Charity Classic. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Parish for 50 years in West Des Moines, Iowa.
He will be remembered as an excellent family member, friend and community member.
