

Rodney G. (Rod) Wilson, 93, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Resthaven Cemetery.
Rod was born June 14, 1917 in Hale Center, Texas to Robert and Elizabeth Wilson. He worked at Meredith Publishing for 40 years and was a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church. Rod was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Three Bronze Campaign Stars, American Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He enjoyed gardening, stamp and coin collecting and spending time with family and friends.
Rod is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lloye Wilson of West Des Moines; daughter, Karen Dykes of Des Moines; son, Stan (Valerie) Wilson of Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jason (Michele) Dykes, Justin Dykes, Megan Wing, Matthew (Angela) Wilson and Carly Wilson; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Fred (Pauline) Grove, Leonard (Gin) Grove and Chuck (Martha) Grove; two sisters-in-law, Lola Ketchum and Phyllis Van Dyke and many nieces and nephews.
