Ronald Bruce Battrick, 79, died peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines after a short illness. A Memorial Gathering will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Ronald was born December 4, 1936 in Des Moines, IA to Del and Jean Battrick. He graduated from Tech High School and went on to further his education at Wahpeton, ND, where he earned his degree in drafting. He met and married Carolyn Johnson September 10, 1961. They had two daughters, Christine and Dianne. Ron worked on many projects around the State of Iowa and worked for the Department of General Services until his retirement.
Ron enjoyed hunting with his black lab, Zipper, photography, art, nature, motorcycles and boats. He had many interests including cooking, political satire, documentaries and watching movies. He enjoyed telling stories (some embellished) about his early years in Des Moines and also the times he spent working on a tugboat in the Pacific Northwest and in Canada. He was friendly to all – always said kind words and had a gentle soul. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 54 years, Carolyn. Ronald is survived by his two daughters, Christine Christensen of Carlisle, IA and Dianne (Jeff) Marciano of Amityville, NY; two grandchildren, Nicholas Marciano and Nicole Christensen; younger brother, Dennis (Debby) Battrick of Folsom, CA; brother-in-law, Paul Johnson of Le Mars, IA; and many nephews and one niece.
