Johnston
Rose Weatherwax, 87, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Rose was born in Dora, Missouri and lived most of her life in the Des Moines area. She worked for 25 years at DeCarlo’s Grill and 20 years at Iowa Methodist Medical Center before retiring.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane (John) Willey of Johnston; son, Mel (Kathy) Weatherwax of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Danielle (Lincoln) Mincks of Johnston and Brian (Hollie) Weatherwax and Kara (Matt) McGarvey, all of Ankeny; and eight great-grandchildren, Parker, Max, Hayden, Abigail, Claire, Grace, Karlin, and Fletcher. Rose was the last living child of her parent’s 18 children.
Rose loved making crafts and sold many of them at area craft shows. She was an avid sports fan. Her favorites were the Cyclones, the Hawkeyes (when they weren’t playing ISU), and her grandson’s baseball team, the Johnston Generals.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bishop Drumm Care Center.
