Sandra Sue Kinney (Sandy), 86, born December 25, 1938, passed away October 2, 2025. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with the entombment following at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Sandra was born in Dawson, IA, the second daughter of Leonard and Bernice Saunders. She graduated from Dawson Consolidated High School in 1956 and was a 1960 graduate from Iowa State Teachers College with a degree in Liberal Arts and Music Education. She enjoyed life as a teacher, data entry bookkeeper, and as a loving wife and mother. Sandra was an accomplished musician, cornetist and pianist, and performed in many music venues. She loved kitties, most of all her two, who’s ashes will accompany her.
Sandra is survived by her sons, Michael Fiala and Freeman Fiala; stepsons, Philip Kinney, David Kinney, and Douglas Kinney; sister, Karen York; sister-in-law, Janet Van Cleave; ten grandchildren; and many nieces, and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her sister, Ginger Capen.
