Scott Charles Ingersoll, 74, passed away at his home in Des Moines on Friday, September 23, 2022. A celebration of life will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel with a time of sharing at 3 p.m. Entombment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Scott was born April 8, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa to Charles and Jane (Weeks) Ingersoll. He moved to Iowa City then Des Moines as his parents took different jobs. His dad was a hospital administrator and his mom Jane was a nurse. Scott graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1967 and then to college in Oklahoma for a year. He then went on to get an education from the college of life and that is where his education really came from.
Scott's considerable curiosity and intellect led him down many paths. If something caught his fancy, he would read and study as much as he could find to learn how it worked and/or functioned. The range of things was astonishing whether it be motors, cars, stereo gear, astrology, how the earth was formed, and many more. His vast knowledge earned him the moniker "a warehouse of knowledge".
Beside his immediate family, Scott didn't have or want a family of his own, although he had a large family including his goddaughters and godson and others who he loved and loved him back. Too many families and friends to count. The same was true with pets; he didn't want one but loved everyone's pet like it was his own. He was a motorcycle enthusiast moving on to scooters as he aged. He was an audiophile, building and acquiring a fantastic system and upgraded it constantly. Scott was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, jack-of-all-trades who you could always turn to for help.
Scott is survived by his sisters, Barb and Nan (Bob); brother, Marty (Ruthie); and many nieces and nephews. He was a kind and gentle soul who never saw the "bad" in anyone, only the good. RIP Scotty, you will be missed.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
