When Scott was young his family relocated from Oklahoma to Urbandale, Iowa. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1979 and from the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley in 1983. In Scott’s early years he worked in the citrus groves of south Texas. He transitioned to a successful career in sales, eventually retiring from TMC Transportation. At work he was known to be hard-working, dedicated, fair and honest. He loved the art of the deal. At home Scott was a committed husband and father. He was proud of his kids and loved his grandchildren dearly. He led by example. Any challenge he faced sharpened his resilience. The wisdom he shared over the years helped shape those around him. It was never loud or imposed, it was subtle and thoughtful - small lessons of life that stay with us. That is his true legacy. Scott was a car buff, he enjoyed road trips, especially to Texas, and he loved the quiet life he settled into at his home in Winterset. His presence in our lives was a gift. He leaves a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Scott is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna; children Travis (Sarah) Schecher, Jenna (Michael) Doheny and Haley Schecher; grandchildren Savannah and Walter Schecher and Charlotte Doheny; his sister Cindy Schecher, and brothers and sisters-in-law Dave (Monette) Dudek, Doug (Nancy) Dudek, Larry (Maida) Dudek, Jim (Myong) Dudek, Marty Dudek, Eileen (Rick) Wyrembelski, Joan (Mike) Sussman, Bill (Michelle) Dudek; and 27 nieces and nephews.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Norma Schecher; his in-laws Daniel and Dolores Dudek; and his brother-in-law Dan Dudek.
The family will have a private Celebration of Life.
