Sharon Joy Bridgeman

Sharon Joy (McIrvin) Bridgeman, 77, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with inurnment at Resthaven Mausoleum. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s.

Sharon was born May 3, 1940 in Denver, CO to Stanley and Edna (Preese) McIrvin. As her children grew up she returned to work, holding a variety of positions she enjoyed and excelled at, eventually retiring from Rain and Hail L.L.C. Sharon was an avid reader who loved cooking, sewing, needlepoint, puzzles, and watching her grandchildren’s activities. She was a smart, wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her family.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry; daughters, Jennifer (Terry) Shanks of Johnston, Susanne Morrison (D.J. Slife) of Polk City and Laura (Guy) Willey of Urbandale; brothers, Neal (Darlene) McIrvin of Wyoming and Paul (Vicki) McIrvin of Florida; grandchildren, Emily Joy Cormier, Jack Morrison, Samuel Shanks, Jaida Morrison, Liam Willey, Thomas Willey; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
