Stanley Theodore Ekdom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away on February 20, 2022 at the age of 78 in Des Moines, Iowa, where he lived for more than 56 years with his wife Darlene. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his strength in facing life challenges with courage and grace.
He was born in Ireton, Iowa on August 11, 1943. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1965 after which he started work with Banker’s Life Insurance (now Principal Financial Group), where he worked for 40 years. He and Darlene joined the Des Moines Christian Reformed Church, where over the years he served as deacon, elder, and treasurer.
Stan enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling. Together he and Darlene saw the world. He was extremely devoted to his family, and he would go above and beyond to help others in need. His three granddaughters Madelyn, Joscelyn, and Gracelyn were the light of his life.
Stan was preceded in death by his father Cornelius Ekdom, mother Geretta Ekdom, brother Gerald Ekdom, and sister Marjorie Beltman. He is survived by his wife Darlene, brother John Ekdom, son Loren Ekdom, daughter Julie Ekdom, son Steve Ekdom, and their families.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10am on February 25, 2022 at Crossroads Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.
