Steve enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, watching WNBA basketball, and immersing himself in games and anime, but above all else he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, and first wife Laurie Coughennower. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 18 years Rev. Robin Coughennower; children Jason (Sherry) Coughennower, Chad (Kaylene) Coughennower, stepdaughter Katie (Jake) Nielsen; grandchildren Zane (Kat), Ethan, Nate (Chloe), Logan, Zoe, Slade; sisters Debbie (Mark) Ebbrecht, Cindy (Mark) Chappelle and Amy (Mark) Hedberg.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 E Euclid Ave, Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. The burial will be held at Resthaven at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026.
