Sylvia Mae Howie, 81, of West Des Moines, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 at University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with interment in Jordan Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Sylvia was born on December 22, 1929 in Des Moines, the daughter of Vern and Martha (Walker) Rhone. She was a secretary for the Federal Government for several years. Her children and grandchildren were her life. Sylvia is survived by her five children, Becky (Hugh) Coder of Charlotte, NC, Brenda (Blaine) Harvey of Minnetonka, MN, Timothy Post of Humeston, Dennis Van Tassel of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Reagan Bates of Urbandale, IA; sister, Linda (Bill) Boax of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Donnie Perry Jr., Cami (Bill) Krier, Steven Perry, McKenzie Post, Morgan Post, Tanner (Prescilla) Post and Chelsea Bates; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marvin Rhone, son, Lanny Post and grandsons, Connor Post and Dannon Perry. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
