Thomas M. “Tom” Yule passed away on June 14, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 83. A devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Tom was known for his loyalty, generosity, sense of humor and commitment to his family.
Tom was born on April 10, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Bonnie (Carson) and Addison Yule. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1961 and later earned a business degree from Drake University in 1966, after attending Colorado State University for several years. He proudly served in the Army National Guard of Iowa from 1967-1972 and he loved his country.
On December 18, 1965, Tom married the love of his life, Judith “Judy” Horner. Together they built a life centered on family and friends. They raised their children in Clive, Iowa, and shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage before her unexpected passing in 2025.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Tom enjoyed a successful career in the real estate/property management business and as co-owner of Alliance Realty alongside his business partner and friend, Jim Shipley. He treasured the many relationships he cultivated through his breakfast club and the local business community.
Tom loved hanging out with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, fishing, cold beer and a good cigar, but mostly he loved golf. He continued to enjoy weekly rounds, even if it was just to ride with the gang as cancer took its toll. He and Judy were both fun-loving people who enjoyed hosting family and friends for pool parties, at the Lake of the Ozarks and for golf outings in Florida. Some of their favorite times were summers at Gull Lake, MN. Later in life, their happy place was their home in Rosedale in Bradenton, FL.
Tom is survived by his children, Kimberly (John) King, Kelli Harryman, and Kristofer (Amelia) Yule; his grandchildren, Caroline and Charlotte King, Jessica Harryman, and Ray, Kolby, Hannah, Quinnlyn, Carson Yule, and great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Charlene Yule; his nephew, Larry (Shannon) Yule; his niece, Debra (Vincent) Arcaro; and many dear and lifelong friends from his childhood, those he met along the way and neighbors from Colby Drive and Rosedale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; his parents; his brother, Larry Yule; and his son-in-law, Mike Harryman.
A visitation will be held at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 12-2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm. Tom’s ashes will be placed at Resthaven Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum alongside Judy.
Memorial contributions may be made to UnityPoint Hospice Des Moines in his honor. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to UnityPoint Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Tom and his loved ones in his final weeks.
