Trina Salazar, 91, passed away October 3, 2013 at Mercy West Lakes in West Des Moines. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
Trina was born September 16, 1922 in Valley Junction, IA to Ramon Gallardo and Gregoria (Barcena) Gallardo. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church all of her life and was a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Ave Maria # 302 and the Sacred Heart Legion of Mary. During World War II she worked for Langs Manufacturing making specialized clothing for the soldiers that drove the tanks. Trina retired from the Iowa Department of Revenue after 25 years of service. In May 2013 she was the Queen of the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Valley Junction. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cheering on the Hawkeyes, especially with her great grandchildren.
Trina is survived by her son, Gregory J. (Sharon) Salazar of Windsor Heights; three grandsons, Gregory J. II (Laura) Salazar of Altoona, Michael Salazar of Des Moines and Marc Salazar of Des Moines; three great grandchildren, Tre, Natalie and Nicolas of Altoona; brothers, Leno Gallardo of Oceanside, CA, Frank and Fred Gallardo of Des Moines; sisters, Catherine Martinez of Tucson, AZ, Ramona (Jose) Rocha and Mary (Gary) Kramer of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Mary Gallardo of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded by her parents; brother, John Gallardo; sisters, Josephine Ayala, Theresa Gallardo, Maria Elena Kingsley; brothers-in-law, Mike Ayala, Vito Martinez, Pat Kingsley; sisters-in-law Concetta Gallardo and Nina Gallardo.
