

In Loving Memory... Vera Ruth Knutsen Lindholm, 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa died August 17, 2011, at Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at McLaren’s Chapel followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Burial of cremated remains will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Brayton, Iowa.
Born Vera Ruth Knutsen on February 25, 1921, in Boulder, Colorado to parents Philip and Helen Knutsen, she was the oldest of three children. Her family moved to a farm near Brayton, Iowa in 1924. She graduated from high school in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. She taught in a one-room country school and then in a small town elementary school. She married Joe Lindholm in 1942; they later divorced. She raised her family in Audubon, Iowa. She moved to Ames in 1982, and then to Almost Like Home Assisted Living in Marshalltown in 2008. She loved her family, flower gardening, church volunteerism, bible study, genealogy, books, sewing, and cooking. She volunteered to help Laotian refugees settle in Ames.
Vera is survived by her sister Phyllis Bailey of Rock Island, Illinois; her 5 children Steven Lindholm, Craig Lindholm (Judy), Gail Schayfer, Mark Lindholm, Curtis Lindholm (Traci); her 7 grandchildren: Brian, Eric, Matthew, Sandra, Justin, Anika, and William; her 8 great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Gabriela, Samantha, Tory, Jennifer, Hazel, Gabriella, and Clara, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Maurice (Donis) Knutsen and son-in-law Herbert Schayfer.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
