Wayne Allen, 81, passed away January 7, 2013 at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Wayne was born January 22, 1931 in De Soto to Henry Harrison and Ethel Marie Allen. He had two brothers, Robert Lee, who died in a car accident in 1957 at age 23 and a brother, Edward Arthur, who died in the 1930’s. He moved to an acreage at age 8, at 57th and Park in Des Moines. Wayne was married on July 31, 1951 to Louise Minnie who died unexpectedly in March of 1957 at the age of 23 leaving behind their four month old daughter, Joyce Marie. After his wife’s death he moved in with his parents until his daughter finished high school. He entered the Army on October 24, 1951 at Fort Belford, VA. He went to Tokyo and then to Korea where he spent two years building bridges, roads and airstrips and also worked in demolition. After returning home he spent six years in the Army Reserves. Wayne had many different jobs. He worked the night shift at Penn Dixie, a feed store, mattress store and at Bethel Mission for five years until he retired at the age of 62.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Joyce and special friends, Brian Turner and Jan Stegeman. Memorial contributions may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
