Wayne I. Harris

Wayne I. Harris, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Wayne was born July 19, 1942 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Wayne E. and Betty A. (Carson) Harris. The family moved back to Iowa when Wayne was a young boy growing up in the Des Moines area. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Drake University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in active duty and the reserves for 23 years. He went to work for the State of Iowa and retired with 25 years of service.

Wayne enjoyed camping with his wife, Elisabeth, crossword puzzles, reading Western books, watching sports and loved to travel with his wife.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elisabeth; daughter, Monika (Terry) Crane; son, John (Rachel) Harris; and daughter, Stephanie Stewart (John Perez); four grandchildren, Joshua Crane, Cody Crane, Jeremy Harris and Caiti (Justin) James. He was preceded in death by his parents.
