Wayne Tilden Thompson, 92, passed away December 7, 2018 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines.
Wayne was born April 24, 1926 in Jewell, IA to Lewis and Myrtle (Wicks) Thompson. Following graduation from Jewell High School, he served in the Army Air Corp in the CBI Theater (China, Burma, India) during WWII. Wayne attended AIB following his service and went on to become a manager in accounting and finance for the Des Moines Post Office before his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church who enjoyed, bowling, golfing, country music, fishing, and his grandkids.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; son, David (Kathleen) of West Des Moines; daughter, Elizabeth Thompson of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Anthony and Ryan Buss, James, David Jr., Stephanie, and Emily Thompson; four great grandchildren, Isabelle, Connor, Case, and Zoey, and sister, Mary Lou Simon of McAllen, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Memorials can be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
