Bill was born February 15, 1930 in Boone, Iowa to Chauncey and Blanche (Smith) Markey. He joined the Army and served in the Korean War. After his discharge from the military, he went on to be a truck driver for Caldwell & Hartung and after 31 years retired. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, specifically the grandkids; fixing bikes and allowing them to be kids. Bill was a geography enthusiast, but also liked to tinker with boats and motorcycles, even later in life he could be seen riding a motorcycle. Bill had a big heart and deeply cared for animals, more specifically cats and raccoons.
Left to cherish his memory is his lovely wife of 63 years, Lenore; daughters, Laura (John) Walker of Stanhope and Shirley Markey of Des Moines; son, Bob Markey of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Ed Markey, and sister, Flossie.
Memorial donations in Bill’s honor can be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
