William “Bill” Metcalfe, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 surrounded by his family, in his home. Bill grew up in Des Moines and attended East High. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the Army during WWII. He served in Korea and Japan. Bill attended the University of Iowa where he met his wife, Corene of 52 years. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Business from Drake. For many years they had season tickets with their friends, Jack and Jo, to the Drake basketball games. Of all of the things he achieved in his life, his greatest pride was his family. He loved attending his grandkids and great grandkids’ events and cheering them on and credits them for his youthfulness. Bill enjoyed spending time outside on the deck watching “his hummingbirds,” fishing, sitting by the lake and boat rides.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Morrow of Texas and Kristi (Craig) Junkin of Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Toni (Matt) Mattox, Kelley Bodine, Tanner McPherren, Robin (Jeremy) Koontz, Cristin (Matt) Watrous; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; wife, Corene; and his son-in-law.
