Bill was born Jan. 10, 1922 in Des Moines to William and Esther Johnson Park. He grew up in Des Moines with his two brothers, Floyd and Jack. He particularly enjoyed forcing Jack to walk to the library with him. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. He served as a lieutenant in the Army during World War II and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge.
He spent his career working for the US Postal Service in Des Moines, retiring as Director of Customer Service in 1977. On May 10, 1947 he married Darlene Dailey, who became the first female officer at Bankers Trust. He was a member of New Beginnings Christian Church. Bill enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing bridge. After retirement, Bill and Darlene traveled the world.
Bill died with loving nieces by his side. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, who died in April 2020; his brothers Jack and Floyd; and his nephew Mike.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family thanks his wonderful caregivers and the staff at Woodlands Creek for enriching his life.
