Charles J. Larsen, 94, of Brewster, MA entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, December 4, 2015. Born in Revere, MA to the late James L. Larsen and Thelma S. (Little) Larsen, he grew up in Guilford, ME. Charlie and his family returned to Guilford many years for vacations as he remained close friends with his high school classmates.
Charlie was a proud WWII US Navy veteran who served over three years in the South Pacific as an Aviation Machinists Mate First Class. Soon after the war, Charlie and Edna (also a Navy veteran) were married and lived for many years in Sudbury, MA. Charlie worked 37 years for Raytheon as a technical engineer at the Waltham, MA and Burlington, MA locations, before retiring in Brewster, MA in 1983.
Charlies’ passion was music. He played guitar and was mostly fond of his banjos and specialized in ‘Dixieland’ music. He played for several bands, the most prominent of which were The Liberty Hall Jazz Band who performed throughout The Cape; the Suburbanaires a town band from Sudbury, MA and The Six Pages of Dixie; a New Hampshire based band well-known for providing the music for dinner cruises aboard the M/S Mt. Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Charlie was an extraordinary designer and problem solver. Whether at home or work, no mechanical, structural nor electrical issue was beyond his ability to master. If he needed a tool that didn’t exist, he made it. Charlie took great pride in his Sudbury home which he built himself as well as the annual front yard outdoor hockey rink and more recently the grandfather clocks he made for his sons. Charlie also enjoyed gardening.
Charlie is predeceased by his beloved infant son James Larsen and his dear sister Joan McCarthy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years Edna C. (Dunn) Larsen; his beloved sons Robert C. Larsen and Gary O. Larsen; his dear brother Jack Larsen; his dear sister Betty Warner; his adored grandchildren Erik A. Larsen and Beth E. Larsen and his cherished great-grandchildren Charles H. Larsen and Matthew A. Larsen.
