Eileen Elizabeth (McCarthy) Connell, 80, of West Harwich, MA died peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was an only child, born in Boston, MA on December 21, 1937 to her Irish immigrant parents of County Kerry; Florence and Eileen (O'Sullivan) McCarthy. On May 24, 1958 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, the late John Francis Connell (2016). Eileen is survived by her 4 loving children; a daughter Cathleen of Boston, 3 sons, John & wife Patricia of Chatham, Clifford Connell of Holden and William Connell of West Harwich. She is also survived by 11 adored grandchildren and 4 cherished great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Cape Cod Community College. Eileen received her RN and worked as a crisis intervention nurse for 10 years across the Lower Cape, Pocasset Mental Health and Cape Cod Healthcare. She was very proud of what she did and was a true healer.

Eileen was also very proud of her Irish heritage. She and her husband Jack bought the Rooming House for the Belmont Hotel, known as Sunny Pines, in 1970. After their children were grown they re-opened as the Cape Cod Claddagh Inn and Irish Pub.... an Irish experience where Eileen proudly shared her Irish Heritage and hospitality with traditional Irish food, music and good craic. Nobody was a stranger and Eileen's smile would light up the room. She gladly welcomed people and was also lovingly referred to as the white haired lady with the pearl handled pistols.. The General and the matriarch of the family. Eileen was also known for her impeccable style. She loved to travel and for 25 years, she and Jack wintered in the Florida Keys. Eileen also loved animals, she had rescue dogs, raised Dobermans, had chickens and horses.

Dear Mom,

You were my best friend, my greatest advocate, always there for me when it mattered most. We could talk about deep stuff, big ideas, the meaning of life, and then get silly. It was never boring for us because we knew what we were talking about even if no one else did. You loved family and friends, always respectful and inviting, generous, thoughtful and kind. There were no strangers, no one too down to lift up with your smile, or too lonely to offer a drink and comfort food to. You and Dad are famous for that, spreading good cheer and lifting spirits. What a gift you were to us and so many! Thank you so much! I will miss you, but will never let you out of my heart.

Love,
Cliff

Dear Cathy,
so sorry to learn of your great loss.... we, Crow and I, have so many great memories of our friendship with your mom and dad.... Crow knew your dad from their school days.... especially playing sports ........ of course they were the best... and they were...
I first met your mom when we double dated at the Hyde Park Prom and became
good friends.... so many years, so many laughs, so many good times....

I do know she loved her family first and was so proud of all the kids....
I enjoyed seeing the family pictures .... she was a little doll..
wasn't she.... take care, and it won't be easy but you are lucky you have
no regrets in your love for your parents....

I will not be able to attend the services..... but she is in our prayers
and God Bless Her and her family

Dear Cathy and family,
So very saddened to learn of the passing of your beautiful Mom.. She was a gem for sure, such an accomplished lass with great energy and a glowing smile. Her welcoming hospitality resembled her Irish nature through and through.. I now know why you are the grand lady that you are.. the apple of your Mom and Dad’s eye. Blessings and peace to your family .. You did such a fine job taking care of your parents.. Your Dad’s got it from here..
Love you Cath,
Ginny
