Eileen Elizabeth (McCarthy) Connell, 80, of West Harwich, MA died peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was an only child, born in Boston, MA on December 21, 1937 to her Irish immigrant parents of County Kerry; Florence and Eileen (O'Sullivan) McCarthy. On May 24, 1958 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, the late John Francis Connell (2016).
Eileen is survived by her 4 loving children; a daughter Cathleen of Boston, 3 sons, John & wife Patricia of Chatham, Clifford Connell of Holden and William Connell of West Harwich. She is also survived by 11 adored grandchildren and 4 cherished great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Cape Cod Community College. Eileen received her RN and worked as a crisis intervention nurse for 10 years across the Lower Cape, Pocasset Mental Health and Cape Cod Healthcare. She was very proud of what she did and was a true healer.
Eileen was also very proud of her Irish heritage. She and her husband Jack bought the Rooming House for the Belmont Hotel, known as Sunny Pines, in 1970. After their children were grown they re-opened as the Cape Cod Claddagh Inn and Irish Pub.... an Irish experience where Eileen proudly shared her Irish Heritage and hospitality with traditional Irish food, music and good craic. Nobody was a stranger and Eileen's smile would light up the room. She gladly welcomed people and was also lovingly referred to as the white haired lady with the pearl handled pistols.. The General and the matriarch of the family.
Eileen was also known for her impeccable style. She loved to travel and for 25 years, she and Jack wintered in the Florida Keys. Eileen also loved animals, she had rescue dogs, raised Dobermans, had chickens and horses.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, October 20th from 4-7 p.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., West Harwich, MA 02671. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2018 at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich followed by burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne, MA where she will be laid to rest by her beloved Jack.
