

Born on January 16, 1938 in Harwich, he was the son of the late Nathan E. and Ethel (Adams) Chase, Sr.
Jim graduated from Harwich High School in the class of 1956.
As a teenager, Jim worked at the Harwich Bowling Alley setting up the pins. He was a master pipe fitter. He started in the industry in the mid 1960s when he worked for Cape Pump and Tank Service. He later moved on to start his own company, Jim’s Pump and Tank Service, a business that he ran with different employees, until his son, Jim, Jr. graduated from high school. He incorporated his business with his son after spending almost 20 years as a father –son team. Jim, Jr. will continue his legacy.
He loved to be around the water and enjoying fishing, quahoging or eeling. In the summer you would find him in his garden. Whatever he grew, he would share with the members of his church. He could fix anything, not only at home, but at church as well. Jim also loved to travel, having gone on over 30 cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and the Panama Canal as well as many trips across the United States.
Jim was a member of the Harwich United Methodist Church since he was a boy. He enjoyed hunting and would cook for the group at Walker’s Camp during hunting season. He will be missed by many.
He was predeceased by his brother, Herbert Chase.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Dolores (Perreault) Chase; his son, H. James Chase Jr. of Harwich; his daughter, Terri Jean Morris and her husband and two daughters of Sandwich; his step children, Jennifer Campbell of Apache Junction, AZ, step grandchildren, Jasmine Campbell and her son, Damien of Cincinnati, OH, Jared Campbell of Hanson, MA, Terry Sawyer of Kennebunk, ME, Brian C. Chase, Retired Senior Chief USN 26 years and his wife, Daisy of Oak Harbor, WA, two step grandchildren, Christopher J. Chase, USN of El Centro, CA and Elizabeth A. Chase of Oak Harbor, WA. JoAnn Drew of Pensicola, FL and her daughter, Heather Drew. His brother, Nathan E. Chase, Jr. and his wife, Joyce of Port Charlotte, FL, his sister, Mary Irene Van Norden and her husband, Stephen of Saco, ME, his sister in law Hazel (Robie) Chase and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main Street in West Harwich.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Harwich United Methodist Church, 1 Church Street in Harwich.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Route 137 in East Harwich.
