

John “Jack” F. Connell, of West Harwich, MA passed away in his sleep on May 11, 2016. He was born on August 14, 1935 to John and Anna (Cashman) Connell Bain in Hyde Park, MA. On May 24, 1958 he married Eileen McCarthy in Dedham, MA.
He is survived by his wife Eileen of 58 years and his 4 loving children; his daughter Cathleen of Boston, his 3 sons, John & wife Patricia of Chatham, Clifford Connell of Holden and William Connell of West Harwich, 10 grandchildren; Brendan, Sarah, Bryan, Sean, Megan, Joseph, Liam, Mary, Julia and John; niece Janis Connell Taylor as well as many great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Jack served his country in the Coast Guard and was a graduate of Northeastern University. His career path led him to research of the environment and oceans. He was especially grateful for his work at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and travel on expeditions around the world. After coming ashore, Jack was an innkeeper at the Claddagh Tavern in West Harwich where he proudly served customers and told sea stories for many years.
He was a proud member and leader of many veterans’ organizations and the Ancient order of Hibernians.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, Jerimiah Bain and his brother William “Bill” Connell.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at Doane, Beal& Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main Street, West Harwich, MA on Sunday May 15, 2016 from 3-7 PM. Funeral services will be at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home on Monday May 16, 2016 at 10:00 in West Harwich, 260 Main Street, West Harwich, MA and a burial with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne, MA at 12:45 PM. A life celebration will follow at the Cape Cod Claddagh Tavern 77 Main Street West Harwich at 3 PM.
