Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, to Kenneth F. Durling III and Yolanda K. Durling (Silvestrino), Kathy carried a creative spirit from her earliest days. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State College and went on to build a career that spanned Corporate America and entrepreneurial ventures alongside her beloved husband, Mahmoud ElKamouny. But it was through art that Kathy most fully expressed herself. A gifted and multi-disciplinary artist, she worked in painting, stained glass, and beyond, with her pieces featured in local Cape Cod galleries. To know Kathy was to understand that she saw beauty in everything — and had a rare ability to capture it.
Kathy and Mahmoud shared a deep, enduring love that spanned decades. Theirs was a partnership grounded in devotion, adventure, and mutual admiration. Together they traveled the world — across Europe, through Egypt, and around the United States — always curious, always savoring the culture, food, and art of every place they explored.
For all her worldliness, Kathy’s heart belonged to Cape Cod. The ocean, the birds, the quiet rhythm of the shoreline — it was her sanctuary, and it suited her perfectly. She was a dreamer and also someone firmly planted on the ground, as calm and warm as a summer afternoon on the beach she so loved. She adored animals, nature, and museums, and she brought a gentle, joyful energy to every room she entered. There was a lightness to Kathy — a playful spark — that made people feel instantly at ease. Above all, she was one of the kindest souls anyone could ever hope to meet.
Kathy shared an irreplaceable bond with her devoted sisters, Doreen Studley and Lisa Durling. Whether sharing a long conversation, a laugh that only sisters understand, or simply being together, the three of them carried a closeness that was woven into the fabric of who Kathy was. She is also survived by her beloved step-son, Samir ElKamouny, and his wife, Alina ElKamouny; and her cherished nieces, Victoria Studley and Olivia Studley. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Mahmoud.
Kathy’s art, her laughter, and her extraordinary kindness will live on in everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Cape Cod lost one of its most loving spirits — but gained an angel watching over the tide.
