

Lloyd P. McDonald, East Harwich, MA died October 18, 2017 at the age of 94. Lloyd was born August 17, 1923 in Boston, MA, son of Russell and Walburga McDonald. Lloyd served in the Army in World War II, serving in Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. Returning home with an Honorable Discharge he attended Boston College on the G.I. Bill, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. At BC he ran track and was known as an enthusiastic member of the debating team.
Lloyd married the love of his life, Mary (MacFarlane) of Margaree Valley, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on August 30, 1952. Mary predeceased Lloyd in December, 2011.They raised seven children in Stoughton and later Sharon, MA: Lloyd “Paul” McDonald (wife Josie), Gary McDonald, Jane Porter (husband Ernie), Catherine Brown, Douglas McDonald, Shirley Davies (husband Richard), John McDonald (wife Kimberlee).
He is survived by his sisters Joan Enos and Bucky Conti. Lloyd was predeceased by his brothers Russell McDonald, Randall McDonald and Maurice McDonald.
Lloyd was known as an outgoing, people loving man. Gregarious, fearless, tenacious, devoutly religious Catholic, loving husband, father and doting grandfather, these descriptions barely scratch the surface of Lloyd’s character. He loved to sing, dance, talked to everyone, especially strangers often to the embarrassment of his children. An avid gardener, he always grew beans and tomatoes which he shared with family and friends. Even this summer he planted a small garden at Mayflower Place. Lloyd was involved in many, wide ranging eclectic activities and hobbies: migrant farm workers supporter, fair housing advocate, Massapoag Yacht Club, Sharon, MA, Sharon theater group, member Harwich town council.
He was a proud American who also loved his Scottish /Irish heritage with strong ties to Nova Scotia, Mary’s birth place and ancestral home to many of the McDonald and MacFarlane clans.
Lloyd was staunch supporter of the military and VFW member. Lloyd and Mary were leaders of the Cape Cod chapter of Pro-Life. He was a conservative with a heart of gold.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 23, 4-8pm at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home on route 28 in West Harwich. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday October 24 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Church on Route 28 West Harwich.
