

Born in Queens, NY, she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from New York University. She moved to Cape Cod in 1970, where she owned and operated the Village Flower Shop in Dennis until the late 1970's. After the flower shop, she worked with her husband at F.A. Eaton Funeral Service in Harwich until they sold the business in 1991.
She was active in politics, working on the campaigns for John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Michael Dukakis and John Kerry. She attended the inaugural ball for John F. Kennedy. She was also active and a devoted member of her community, serving as a trustee for Brook’s Free Library for many years; member of the Harwich Democratic Committee and volunteering at the Family Pantry after opening and an active member of Holy Trinity Parish, teaching religious education for many years. Most of all, she had a really great sense of humor and loved laughing and spending time with her family.
She was an avid sports fan, following the New York Yankees and especially the New England Patriots where she could be seen on Sundays, wearing her Tom Brady jersey. She loved to eat at Ardeo's in Yarmouth and Villa Roma in Harwich. She especially enjoyed her Dunkin Donuts Decaf Carmel Swirl.
In addition to her husband, Mae is survived by her children, Gregory Eaton and his wife, Debbie, of Vermont; Michelle Arena of South Hadley; Allyson Eaton and her boyfriend, Marc D’Amore, of Wilbraham; and Ronald Eaton and his wife, Sarah, of Harwich. Her grandchildren Michael and Emily Eaton of Vermont; and Olivia Mae Eaton, due in December. Her brother, Paul Arena and her sister, Eleanor Kugel, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her step-children, Donna Eaton Mahoney of Falmouth; Forrest “Al” Eaton, Jr. and his wife, Barbara Prindle-Eaton, of Harwich; and Wendy Grossman and her husband, Alan, of Metuchen, NJ; 11 step-grandchildren and a step- great grandson.
Visiting hours will be held, Sunday, July 25, 2010, from 2-5 PM, in the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Route 28, West Harwich. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, at 11AM, in Holy Trinity Parish, 246 Route 28, West Harwich; followed by a burial in Island Pond Cemetery, Island Pond Rd, Harwich.
