Mrs. Malloy was the daughter of the late David F. and Anna (Fitzgerald) Morrissey and was the devoted wife of the late David L. Malloy Sr. who passed away in 2022.
Marie was born in St. Mark’s parish in Dorchester, where she lived on Dorchester Avenue with her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She loved growing up in Dorchester and talked often of her adventures in the city, especially at her beloved Malibu Beach. She attended Girls’ Latin School in Boston and received her Bachelors of Science from Emmanuel College in 1959, making many good friends along the way. After college, Marie worked for the District Intelligence Office at the Naval Building in Boston.
Marie and David married in 1963. They first lived in Somerville and then moved to Brockton, MA in 1964 to raise their family. While at home with her 3 young children, Marie volunteered for many school activities including the PTA, Block Mothers program and field trip chaperone. Later, Marie worked part time for the Brockton Visiting Nurse Association.
Once all of her children had entered high school, for the next 30 years Marie commuted from Brockton to work in Dorchester at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. She loved the engagement with the university employees as well as the students, taking advantage of the opportunity to take classes at the school.
Marie was a communicant of Our Lady of Rosary Catholic Church in Stoughton, MA from 1964 until the church closed in the early 2000s. Marie was active in the parish – serving as a CCD teacher, Eucharistic Minister, President of the Sodality Guild and Chair of the Annual Christmas Card Fundraiser program.
Marie was always up for anything. During her retirement, she was a member of a local bowling league and a member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Program at UMass, where she joined a book club and attended talks and lectures. She also loved to work maintaining her house and her yard. Marie was happiest when the family met up for a beach day or when they gathered for a meal.
Marie leaves her daughter Kathleen M. Golden and her husband Christopher of Taunton, MA; as well as her sons David L. Malloy, of Cape Cod, MA and Mark J. Malloy, his wife Caryn Malloy and grandsons Harry and Gerald Malloy of Arlington, MA.
