Mike was one of six children born to Michael and Mary (Farrell) Patterson in Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada.
Mike was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Hurley) Patterson of Brewster. He was the proud father of Michael T. Patterson Jr. of Billerica, MA, father-in-law of Debra Patterson and loving grandfather of Matthew and Stephen Patterson. Mike was the brother of Robert Patterson of Burlington, MA, Jack Patterson of Monroe, Washington, James Patterson of Burlington, MA, the late William Patterson of Etobicoke, Toronto, Canada, and the late Molly Patterson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Mike was the uncle of several nieces and nephews who are located in both the United States and Canada.
Mike came to the United States in 1955 to join his brother Robert who lived in Massachusetts. Mike became a citizen of the United States in 1964. Mike was a hardworking man; he was a bookbinder by trade and worked in Boston, MA for several years before accepting a position at Publishers Book Bindery in Winchester, MA. Mike was a member of the Bookbinders Guild Union. He became a supervisor at Publishers Book Bindery and took great pride in creating leather bound bibles and classic books. Much as this work was expertly done by hand. Mike worked as a bookbinder for over 40 years. Mike also worked at Lux Transportation which was located in Woburn, MA for several years. Mike would deliver air freight packages from Lux’s warehouse in Woburn to Boston’s Logan Airport.
Mike was very mechanically inclined. One of his greatest hobbies was restoring antique cars. Mike purchased a 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe and completely restored the automobile. In his spare time, Michael could often be found working on his prized possession. Mike enjoyed taking his Chevrolet to local classic car shows and mingling with other antique car owners. Later in life, Mike purchased a 1983 Mercedes Benz Convertible. This was the perfect Cape Cod summertime vehicle.
Mike was also quite the handyman. Not only would he work on his own property, he would offer his assistance to others. Once again, he took great pride in completing projects. His last unofficial part time job was that of handyman at his place of residence, The Colony Condominiums of Brewster. Michael would paint the condominium units of his friends as well as fix leaky faucets and repair cabinets.
Mike enjoyed traveling to warm weather destinations. One of his favorite locations was Florida. For the past several years, Mike and Marilyn spent their winter months in the Blue Heron Condominiums located in Naples, Florida. Mike and Marilyn had a close network of friends who originally lived in Burlington, moved to Cape Cod, then traveled to Florida for the winter months.
Mike was a simple man who enjoyed the little things in life. Although not an avid sports fan, Mike took pleasure in watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. His favorite television program was The O’Reilly Factor. Each night he would tune in to Bill O’Reilly for the hot topics of the day. Despite his failing health, Mike made sure that he submitted his absentee ballot prior to the presidential election.
Mike’s family would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center located at the Cape Cod Hospital, the staff at Hope Hospice of Cape Cod, and to the staff of the McCarthy Care Center. A special thanks to our close friends at The Colony of Brewster.
