

Rev. Al LaBrec was born on June 29, 1941, in Harshaw, Wisconsin, and made his transition on November 28, 2023, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred J. LaBrec, Sr., and Minnie Stevens. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnn; his 4 children: Mary, Michael (Christa), Shazia Hussain (Khaliq), and Christopher (Precy); 8 grandchildren: Matthew, Andrew, Yaseen, Aminah, Zain, Jasper, Kalia, and Arianna; and one great-grandchild: Ryker, who added joy to his last months. In addition, he is survived by 5 brothers and sisters, Leona Will, Paul, Roland (Gail), Susan Will, and Kathy Haas (Alan), and many nieces and nephews.
Rev. Al had many occupations over the years. His first job, while he was still in high school, was in a creamery. After that, he joined the Wisconsin National Guard. In 1961, during what came to be known as “the Berlin Crisis,” he was called to active duty in the United States Army.
Then he pursued education. He obtained a teacher training certificate from Taylor County Teacher’s College in Medford, Wisconsin, and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. He became a high school teacher for difficult kids in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota.
Rev. Al’s first job in Florida was as a high school teacher for difficult kids. In the ensuing years, he became an airport firefighter, a department store manager, an encyclopedia salesman, and a life insurance agent. He attained some distinction as a salesman, winning a national sales award. He also contributed to his community, becoming president of the Rotary Club of Lantana and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Finally, in 1990, he graduated from Unity School of Christianity and achieved his dream of being ordained as a Unity minister. He served two churches: one in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and one in Jupiter, Florida. Then, in the last period before his retirement, he worked as a chaplain for a hospice program in Martin County, Florida.
Around 2011, he retired in a community in West Palm Beach called Palm Lake Estates, where he was able to indulge in some of his favorite things.
He always loved reading the Bible and studying spiritual principles. Some of his favorite authors were Joel Goldsmith, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, and Norman Vincent Peale.
He was also an enthusiastic sports fan. And one of his chief pleasures was watching Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins football games.
Rev. Al will long be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, minister, and friend.
He will be interred with military honors on December 18, 2023, @ 2:30pm at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth Beach, Florida.
