When Bethelda was just 17 years old, her mother passed away. This loss had a profound impact on her life, as she lovingly stepped in to help her father care for her younger siblings, demonstrating responsibility, strength, and selflessness at a very young age.
Bethelda left her hometown and moved to Kingston, Jamaica. Life in the big city presented many challenges. She did domestic work and later worked in a factory. She met Alexander Brice and they were married. Alexander preceded her in death in 2001.
In October 2003, Bethelda left Jamaica and moved to the United States to live with her daughter, Jeanette (“Jean”). She embraced her new surroundings and culture and deeply enjoyed the time spent with her daughter. Bethelda loved to travel and frequently traveled across the country to visit family and friends. She also had a great love for dancing. Whenever she heard music—no matter where she was—she would grab her walker and hit the dance floor!
Bethelda became disillusioned with the church that she was a member of for 31 years. After studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses, she decided that she belonged there. So, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 28, 2005. Bethelda was very zealous and shared her newfound faith with everyone she met. She could often be found in the door-to-door ministry, and in her later years she engaged in a public ministry, preaching from a car. She received a lot of love and support from the members of the congregation during this time. When she could no longer engage in the door to door and public ministries, she still found a way to talk about her God. She faithfully shared Bible truths by calling family and friends. She often said, “My mouth is strong, but my body is weak.”
Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love are her only child, Jeanette Parchment; her brother, Arthur Green; her granddaughter, Diahann Parchment; her grandson, Booker Parchment; her great-grandsons, Ashton Richardson, Theodore Parchment, Bryce Parchment, and Braxton Parchment; her great-great-granddaughter, Piper Richardson; her great-great-grandson, Kingston Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends too numerous to mention.
