December 28, 1950 - September 21, 2022
Carol Jean McLaughlin passed away recently after a short battle with an aggressive cancer.
She is remembered as a caring person of exceptional intellect, and known for exploring her interests in travel and art. She graciously shared her talents with her community and family in many ways.
Carol was part of a big family with deep roots in Montrose, Pennsylvania. The youngest of six, she was close to her siblings and their families, and spent many holidays and vacations with her family, whether local or farther away. She was an animal lover and had many cats over the years that were part of her family.
After graduating from Montrose Area High School, Carol moved to Philadelphia where she earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Psychology from The University of Pennsylvania. She returned to Montrose and served as a Child Welfare Caseworker, before going back to Philadelphia and earning an MBA from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. After completing her studies she was recruited to Scott Paper Company and enjoyed a successful career in their marketing department. She worked as an executive at Scott in Philadelphia and San Antonio, TX. In the late 1980s she left Scott to pursue a new business opportunity in Massachusetts.
Carol retired in 1997 and moved to West Palm Beach, where she made many close friendships, particularly with the members of her water aerobics group. She deeply valued these caring and supportive relationships. During retirement she explored her interest in art and travel, becoming an accomplished watercolor artist through her participation in the Armory Art Center. Her paintings focused on the beautiful tropical foliage and birds of South Florida. Carol traveled the world and was always looking forward to her next trip.
Carol was a prolific reader and had a special place in her heart for the Mandel Library. She devoted herself to the Children’s department as a volunteer.
She is survived by her sister Cathy Kipp, brothers Richard McLaughlin and Chuck McLaughlin, and many nieces and nephews.
