With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Carol Ann Saunders, a woman of elegance, dignity, and remarkable grace, on Saturday, May 17th at 7:35 p.m. She was a beloved wife to Martin C. Saunders for 50 years, a devoted mother, a trailblazing journalist, with a powerful presence.
For over two decades, Carol made her mark as a respected columnist, Crafting her society and theater columns with elegance and a keen eye for detail. Her popular column, "Carol Chatter," ran in the Jupiter Courier and TC Palm, where she chronicled high society, art, and the stories of those who shaped her community and beyond. Her final two features celebrated her dear friends and icons—Burt Reynolds and Joe Namath—a fitting tribute to a life spent among legends.
Carol was more than a journalist—she was a cultural connector and a true socialite, known for her class, taste and dynamic personality. Her career included working for Mayor of Palm Beach County, journalist and freelance writer to owner of Tequesta Galleries and School of Art for 20 years.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Elisa Saunders and Sunnie Petric who carry forward her legacy of strength, tenacity and compassion. Also survived by son-in-law Andrew Petric that she loved like a son and her handsome and accomplished grandsons Aden and Landen Petric. Also by her sister and best friend Sally Brinkema and her husband Harry Brinkema, Incredible sister-in-law Penny Saier and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Carol’s voice, and presence will be deeply missed but her beautiful spirt lives on in the countless lives she touched and inspired.
