Charles Foster “Charlie” Farrell, 90, passed away on September 5, 2026. Born on June 1, 1936, in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Charlie spent most of his life in Revere, where he and his wife, Claire, raised their family and made their home for many years.
As a young man, Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During his service, he worked on helicopters and was stationed for a time in Key West, Florida. His years in the Navy were an important chapter in his life and reflected the adventurous and independent spirit that remained with him throughout his life.
After completing his military service, Charlie returned to the Boston area and developed a passion for scuba diving at a time when recreational diving was still in its early years. He became involved with the Boston Sea Rovers and was part of Boston’s close-knit diving community. His love of diving was a natural extension of his curiosity and appreciation for adventure and the outdoors.
Charlie loved being outside and had a lifelong appreciation for nature. He enjoyed skiing and remained remarkably active and independent well into his later years. While living in Revere, he made long daily walks along the Charles River part of his routine. Even into his late 70s, Charlie would take the BoltBus from Boston to New York City to visit his son and his family, where he loved walking the streets of New York and exploring the city on foot.
A true New Englander, Charlie was also an avid New England Patriots fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team.
Charlie was a devout Catholic throughout his life, and his faith was a source of great meaning and comfort to him. He especially treasured Sundays spent at St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, where he enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of the community he came to know there.
Later in life, Charlie found some of his greatest pleasures in the simple things-being outdoors, spending time with his son’s dog, Toby, watching the Patriots, enjoying a good meal, and, above all, being with his family. Particularly in his later years, he knew exactly what he liked and what he didn’t-a trait his family came to know well and remember fondly.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Claire; his daughter, Jacki; his son, Daniel, and daughter-in-law, Meredith; and his grandson, Andrew.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, his friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Charlie’s life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Palm Beach, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Charlie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
