December 15, 1943 – July 12, 2025
With hearts filled with love and remembrance, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dorothy Jean Spradley (Brothers), who peacefully entered eternal rest on July 12, 2025. She was born on December 15, 1943, in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late Cleveland Buddy Spradley and Mary Spradley.
Dorothy was a woman of quiet strength, gentle kindness, and unwavering faith. She carried her belief in God deep within her heart and lived each day with compassion, humility, and grace. Her life was a reflection of Love, not through words alone, but through her actions, her care for others, and her ability to remain grounded… even through life’s challenges.
A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1962, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Dorothy went on to become a respected and beloved employee at Northern Telecom, where she worked faithfully for many years. Her gentle demeanor, honest spirit, and loyal friendship left a lasting positive impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
On April 11, 1964, she was united in marriage to Clarence Brothers, a bond rooted in love, trust, and mutual respect. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Mary Lorraine Brothers and Shana Jean Brothers, both of whom preceded her in death. They are now reunited with their mother in everlasting peace.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mary Magdalene Spradley; her sister, Frances Ruth Spradley; her aunt, Martha Lulajane Spradley, and her cousins, Jerry Moore and John Carver Spradley.
She has left behind a family who adored her and will cherish her memory always. They include her devoted niece-daughter, Deborah Spradley of Chicago, IL; her faithful nephew-son, Derrick L. Spradley (Pat) of Chicago, IL; her devoted lifelong companion, Clarence Brothers; loving brother, Rufus Spradley (Kathryn); and her many beloved grandnieces and nephews: Tonya “Nikki” Darville, Tanisha Davis, Shakiva Spradley, Keira Spradley, Linda Spradley Dunn, Stephanie Spradley Sears, Avis Spradley Brown, Bobby Spradley Jr., Keisha Spradley, Dione Lewis, Staphon Moore (Elizabeth), Tonya Moore (Kobe), Jerri Moore (Xzavia), Vidyapati El, Jerral Moore, Mario Davis, Melissa Spradley, and Julian Spradley; Several cousins, including: Rose Anne Brown and Patricia Copeland-Johnson. She also leaves behind her lifelong friends, Viola Coleman and Judy Johnson; along with a host of extended family and friends who will remember her sweet spirit, wise words, and kind heart.
Though Dorothy may not have spoken often about her faith, she lived it every day in the way she loved, endured, and uplifted others. Her belief in God was personal, powerful, and enduring, a quiet flame that never dimmed.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
