I died at The Crossing Rehab of natural causes on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. If someone asked if I was writing my obituary before I passed away, I would answer, “I know my limitations. “I was born in St Ann, Jamaica West Indies to Robert and Rohema Palmer, wonderful parents, on November 1, 1926. It was the era of “Children should be seen and not heard.” My sisters, brothers and I were taught to be deaf-mutes for most of our childhood.
I got married to my gracious, understanding, and precious husband, Sydney in 1946 and started to have my beautiful, hardheaded, stubborn, persistent, ambitious lovable and witty children. I was strict, but I always had a good sense of humor. After graduating from sewing school, from Muirhouse Buxton St. Ann. I started making clothes for friends and family and my lovely neighbors. I became a teacher at Buxton infant school - I not only taught the children of the community but my own children to be model citizens. I was such an adventurer. I would travel all of Palm Beach County seeking to find new places to shop. I did not drive. If you put me behind a wheel you’d have to ask everyone to clear off 95 and turnpike until I get back home!
I enjoyed my life to the fullest with special credit goes to God, my family and church members for being there for me. My husband Sydney, was always a great partner in my life and the father of my ten children. He went to be with the lord December 2004.
Surviving are my resilient daughters, Rachel, Lurline, Thelma, Ilene, Janet and Maureen. My sons, Clayton (Pastor Wisdom) and Odel. In loving memory of my son and daughter who I survived, Kim and Unel, (gone too soon),
I’m fortunate to have wonderful grandchildren and great grands, some lovely sons and daughters in-law, past and present. Brothers and sisters, special cousins, extended family members and friends in Jamaica and other parts of the world, and my church. I was blessed with angels who became my friends and caregivers. These individuals gave new meaning to the word, “friendship”. I know everyone thinks that their church is the best, but I salute my church, Central New Testament Church of God!!
A big hug to the wonderful staff at the Crossing Rehab who helped to care for me. They listened when I prayed and worshiped God in the Spirit, I believe I was the loudest there when I started singing songs of praise, like “Yo-de-doe, mount Zion.” There were times when I scold them like my own children, and yes, I forget they were my caregivers. I have had a Wonderful Life!! Special thanks to each and everyone! “
Love, Eliza (Also known as ‘Sister Lize, Vie or Mother Wisdom) God Bless, I’ll see you in heaven.
A Poem from Mom
“To Those I Love And To Those Who Love Me”
When I am gone,
Release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears;
Be happy we had so many years.
I give you my love,
You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love
You have shown me;
But now it’s time I travel alone.
So grieve a while for me,
If grieve you must.
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away for life goes on.
So if you need me,
Call me and I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart,
You’ll hear
All my love around you,
Soft and clear.
And when you must come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a Smile,
And “Welcome Home”.
Love Mom
