Elizabeth Guthrie, beloved servant of God, faithful wife, and cherished aunt, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on September 27, 2025, at the age of 104.
Born on December 9, 1920, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Clara Nell and John Winn. She was one of six siblings, and though all five of her brothers—William, John Jr., Ulysses, Frank, and Sherman—preceded her in death, she carried their memory and legacy throughout her long, full life.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Industrial High School and a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. While attending Ephesus SDA Church in West Palm Beach, she met the love of her life, Isaac “Wren” Guthrie. The two were united in holy matrimony on January 6, 1951. Their shared commitment to ministry and mission was evident from the very beginning of their marriage.
Shortly after marrying, the couple relocated to Pontiac, Michigan, where Isaac began work with General Motors. Together, they answered the call to spread the gospel and began working as part-time colporteurs. Their home became a haven for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship, eventually serving as the birthplace of what would become a new church family. In 1961, through their faithful efforts and partnership with fellow believers, a new Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pontiac was formally organized and accepted into the Lake Region Conference — a testament to their tireless dedication to sharing the Three Angels' Message.
In 1987, Elizabeth and Isaac returned to West Palm Beach to care for her ailing mother. There, they rejoined Ephesus SDA Church before becoming charter members of the First SDA Church of Riviera Beach. Over the next four decades, Elizabeth continued to serve the Lord with unwavering devotion. She wore many hats in the church — pianist, Bible worker, Pathfinder leader, and numerous other roles — always committed to nurturing faith in others, especially young people.
Elizabeth lived a life marked by deep faith, selfless service, and enduring love for her family, friends, and church community. Her wisdom, grace, and joyful spirit touched the lives of many across generations.
She is survived by a loving host of nieces and nephews: Clara Winn, Ulysses Winn (Alice), Faye Wilson (William), Sylvia Winn, Rodney Winn, Druscilla Winn, Linda Cook, Sabrina Winn, Cherry Winn, Beverly Jean Winn, Sherman Jr., Alan Winn, Bruce Winn, Collen Morris (Roosevelt), Dawn Winn, Edie Weathers (David), Kevin Winn, Mark Winn, Best friends: Betty, Pam and Charlene - along with countless grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted church members who will continue to cherish her memory.
Elizabeth Winn Guthrie has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Her legacy of love and service will live on in all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the First SDA Church of Riviera Beach, located at 3751 Avenue J, Riviera Beach, FL, 33404, United States. The service is scheduled for October 12, 2025 at 9:30 am.
