Georgina (Gini) Balsinde More was born on August 17, 1940, in Havana Cuba. She spent her first 18 years in Cuba, enjoying ballet dance, socializing, the beautiful beaches, and her family. She graduated from Ruston Academy in 1958. From there, she attended Tulane University, studying architecture for one year. She then transferred to the University of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri, where she met her first husband, Donald Nicholas Overall. In 1962, she was the first female student to have a child (Georgiana)
She graduated in 1963. Gini had her second child (Nicholas) in 1964, then the family moved to Bridgeport, CT. She taught Chemistry at Central Catholic High School in 1965. In 1967, her family moved to Milford until 1970 when they relocated to Springfield, PA.
She began working at the Franklin Institute in 1970, but then completed her Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry at Villanova University in 1973. She began her career at Foote Minerals, then moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1979 to work with Pratt & Whitney. She married her second husband, Alfredo de la Torre, in 1990. One of her biggest career accomplishments was her position at Motorola where she helped design one of the first lithium batteries for cell phones. She retired in 1995.
Moving from Atlanta to Florida, she began her love of painting, necklace design, and spending more time with family.
She passed away from complications from cancer on March 31, 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Georgiana Platt, and her son, Nicholas Overall. She has four grandsons (no granddaughters!): Benjamin Platt, Jeremy Platt, Vaughn Overall, and Patrick Overall.
A Funeral Mass for Georgina More will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 19, 2021, at St. Juliana Catholic Church, 4500 South Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, Florida. Our family is grateful for your love and support. Thank you for sharing this time with us.
